Operation procedure of spray water repellency tester

Spray Rating Tester can be used to evaluate the water repellency of the fabric surface. The instrument is an all-metal frame. Quantitative distilled water passes through a standard nozzle at a distance of 150mm below 45 degrees spray to be tested. After the test, test The sample surface is compared and graded with the standard chart. It is currently the main equipment for fabric water repellency testing. Ulabester Instrument Co., Ltd. is a professional manufacturer of textile testing equipment over 20 years, welcome customers to inquiry.

A. The purpose and Scope of spray test for water repellency

1. The standard applies to any textile fabric, whether it has been treated with water repellency or not. This standard can be used to measure the water wettability of fabrics, especially those treated with water repellency, especially plain weave woven fabrics.

2. Because the Spray Rating Tester is simple and portable, and the test procedure is relatively concise, this standard is particularly suitable for factory product control. Since this standard cannot measure the penetration of water droplets into the fabric, it is recommended not to use this standard to evaluate the rain penetration performance of waterproof fabrics.

3. The test results of this standard are related to the initial water repellency and wetting properties of the finishing of fibers, yarns and fabrics, and have little to do with the structure of the fabric.

B. Spray Tester principle:

Under the specified conditions and procedures, spray water on a tight sample to form a wetting pattern on the surface, the size of which is related to the water repellency of the fabric. The evaluation result is determined by comparing it with the standard pattern.

C. Apparatus and raw materials:

D. Test sample:

Three test specimens of 180*180mm (7*7inch) are required. They must be humidified for at least 4 hours in a standard environment with a temperature of 21±1°C and a relative humidity of 65±2% before testing.

E. Spray test for water repellency test procedure:

1. Put the sample on a metal ring with a diameter of 152mm with the front side facing up to ensure that its surface is smooth and wrinkle-free.

2. Place the metal ring with the sample on the table of the tester, pay attention to the position of the sample when placing it, and make sure that the center of the sample ring is exactly aligned with the center of the spray pattern ring. For some diagonal, bead or similar striped structures, when the sample ring is placed on the table, the direction of its stripes should be placed diagonally to the direction of the water flow.

3. Pour 250ml deionized water at a temperature of 27±1℃ into the funnel of the tester and spray it on the sample in 25-30 seconds. When pouring deionized water, the beaker should not touch the funnel. If the funnel moves, the pattern and shape of the sample spray will be changed. Spray time must be between 25 and 30 seconds, otherwise the nozzle must be checked to see if the hole is enlarged or blocked.

4. Hold one side of the sample ring, turn the sample face down, and quickly tap the other side towards a hard object, then rotate the sample 180° horizontally, hold the original striking place and quickly strike the original grip again , To pat off the unwetted water droplets on the surface of the sample.

5. Repeat the above steps to test the remaining two samples.
